Researchers Say HIV Hard To Ferret Out

Despite powerful new drug "cocktail" treatments, HIV has proven hard to ferret out, hiding in "resting" immune system cells, in the testicles and perhaps elsewhere in the body, researchers said.

But they told the Fifth Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections, held in Chicago, Illinois, during February 1998, they were rolling out weapons that they hope might boost their current arsenal enough to wipe out the virus for good.

Among the weapons are monoclonal antibodies, genetically engineered antibodies designed to hone in on specific areas of the immune system.
