"Analysis of gp120 Immunogenicity: Considerations for Vaccine Development."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the Sixth European Conference on Clinical Aspects and Treatment of HIV Infection, held October 11-15, 1997, in Hamburg, Germany, "Background of Study: Understanding the structure and immunogenicity of the HIV-1 envelope protein, gp120, is essential for rational design of an AIDS vaccine. Gp120 plays a critical role in the initial stops of infection. Certainly, any reagent able to interfere with gp120 function would be useful in controlling the AIDS epidemic. The obvious approach is to generate an efficient neutralizing immune response towards this protein and indeed gp120 is a major target for candidate vaccines. ...
