"HIV-1 Group M Subtypes A-H and Group O Quantitation by the Gen-Probe Viral Load Assay."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the International Conference on Emerging Infectious Diseases, held March 8-11, 1998, in Atlanta, Georgia, "Cell-free transcripts, viral isolates, and infected specimens containing HIV-1 subtypes A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H or group O were tested by the Gen-Probe HIV-1 Viral Load Assay. The major group of HIV-1, group M, consists of at least eight subtypes, A-H. Group O includes the divergent strains of HIV-1 outside group M. The Gen-Probe HIV-1 Viral Load Assay was evaluated for its ability to detect and quantitate HIV-1 subtypes, including type O variants.
