New Report Finds Five Young People Infected With HIV Every Minute

The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) released a report showing that every minute, five young people aged 10 to 24 become infected with HIV.

It also drew attention to the fact that Eastern Europe has emerged as a particular trouble spot for young people and HIV.

Speaking at a news conference in Moscow, Dr. Peter Piot, UNAIDS, said: "HIV infection among young people is increasing at an alarming rate. We are releasing this report to draw attention to the urgency of the crisis, and to challenge governments and organizations worldwide to intensify their efforts to support young people in preventing HIV infection."
