"Famciclovir for Suppression of Recurrent Genital Herpes in HIV Infected Patients."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 36th Annual Meeting of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, held November 12-15, 1998, in Denver, Colorado, "Herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections occur with greater frequency and severity in HIV patients compared with otherwise healthy adults and have been implicated as cofactors for transmission and pathogenesis of HIV infection. Famciclovir has previously been shown to suppress effectively both asymptomatic and symptomatic HSV shedding in HIV infected patients (Schacker T, et al. Ann Intern Med 1998;128:21-28). This open-label, multicenter study assessed the clinical activity and safety of famciclovir 500 mg twice daily...
