Human Bite Spreads Virus

Human T-lymphotropic virus type II (HTLV-II) may have been transmitted via a human bite.

W.V. Bolton and colleagues reported on their investigation of this case in the January 1999 issue of the Journal of Clinical Microbiology ("Molecular Evidence for Transmission of Human T-Lymphotropic Virus Type II Infection by a Human Bite," Journal of Clinical Microbiology, January 1999;37(1):238-240).

The infected individual was a female Australian blood donor.
