According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 6th Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections, held January 31 - February 4, 1999, in Chicago, Illinois, "Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) were identified as mediators of brain injury in demyelinating diseases. NRAP activities were examined by zymography in the CSF of 138 HIV infected patients, 26 HIV negative subjects with inflammatory neurological diseases (IND) and 12 subjects with noninflammatory neurological diseases (NIND).
