NIAID Opens First Vaccine Trial in Africa

The first AIDS vaccine trial in Africa, under preparation for years, has begun in Uganda.

The opening of this Phase I trial, sponsored by the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), "is an important step in an attempt to develop HIV vaccines for countries hardest hit by the AIDS pandemic," commented Anthony S. Fauci, MD, NIAID.
