New Antibody May Block HIV Infection

A recent study described the activity of PRO 140 (PA14) (Progenics Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Tarrytown, New York), a monoclonal antibody (MAb) with potent anti-HIV activity.

The study, published in the Journal of Virology (May 1999;73(5):4145-4155), was conducted in collaboration with the Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center (ADARC) in New York.

PRO 140 targets CCR5, a protein expressed on the surface of certain immune system cells that provide targets for HIV infection.
