According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the Fourth European Conference on Experimental AIDS Research, held June 18-21, 1999 in Tampere, Finland, "Aim: Nucleic acid vaccines have been shown effective as inducers of humoral and cell-mediated immunity. The aim was to evaluate the capacity of HIV-1 nef cDNA plasmid to induce HIV-1 nef-CTL-specific immunity against human MHC class I A2 epitopes. Therefore, to explore the capacity of an experimental HIV-1 nef expressing DNA vaccine, a HLA-A2 transgenic mouse (C57BL) model was used to study the Nef-specific murine and HLA-A2-restricted CTL-epitopes and response.
