Neural stem cells (NSC) can safely carry retrovirus-vectored genes to multiple cell types within the central nervous system (CNS). This revolutionary suggestion comes from a team of researchers working on a seemingly unrelated question. William P. Lynch of Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and colleagues set out to resolve the question of whether a retroviral envelope (env) gene could by itself cause neurodegeneration.
