"Epitope Assay of Human Sera with Indeterminate Serologic Tests for HIV Infection."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 10th Symposium on HIV Infection, held June 17-19, 1999, in Toulon, France, "The standard diagnostic methods for HIV infection is to screen blood samples for anti-HIV antibodies by the ELISA and Western blot as a confirming test. However, during the screening problems arise: a small percent of individuals (0.1%) demonstrates indeterminate results in ELISA (some test systems give positive results while others show negative) and immunoblot profile (reactivity is restricted to only some HIV proteins). In principle, such indeterminate results may be attributable to an early seroconversion stage of HIV infection or false...
