"Highly Active Anti-Retroviral Therapy Does Not Protect Macaques from Experimental SHIV Challenge."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the Fourth European Conference on Experimental AIDS Research, held June 18-21, 1999 in Tampere, Finland, "Objectives: To evaluate, in the model of macaques inoculated with highly pathogenic SHIV 89.6P, the efficacy of HAART against accidental intravenous exposure to HIV. Materials and Methods: Three groups of four cynomolgus macaques were inoculated intravenously with 50 MID50 of a monkey PBMC-grown SHIV 89.6P cell-free stock.
