Advances in HIV Treatment Make Patients Candidates for Transplants

Only a handful of medical centers around the world are willing to transplant organs into HIV positive patients - a controversial procedure both in terms of medical success and societal acceptance.

But surgeons at an international liver transplantation conference said much of that could change as aggressive new therapies like the so-called AIDS "cocktail" allow people infected with HIV to live longer.
