UK Vaccine Test Cautiously Welcomed

International scientists involved in the fight against HIV and AIDS gave a cautious welcome to the announcement in Britain of tests on a new vaccine, saying no one approach has so far proved successful (see accompanying story).

Advances in research to find a vaccine dominated discussions at a the three-day conference attended by more than 450 AIDS experts and researchers from around the world.

"We are happy to know that one more preventive vaccine is being tested," Prof. Lawrence Corey of the University of Washington told a news conference. "Unfortunately, so far there is no one approach that has proved better than the many others being experimented...
