Triple NRTI Regimen Data Presented

Forty-eight week data from a study comparing the triple nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) regimen of Ziagen (abacavir sulfate)+Combivir (lamivudine/zidovudine) to treatment with Crixivan (indinavir; Merck) in combination with Combivir were presented at the 39th Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy (ICAAC), held in San Francisco, California.

Ziagen currently is approved for use in adults and children in combination with other antiretroviral agents to treat HIV-1 infection. This indication is based on analyses of surrogate markers in controlled studies of up to 24 weeks in duration. Until now, no results from controlled trials...
