Protease Inhibitors Boost Survival

Combination antiretroviral therapy with protease inhibitors provided marked survival benefits for patients with AIDS-related progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy, according to a report from France.

J.M. Tassie and colleagues performed a study to estimate the change in survival of patients with AIDS-related progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) in relation to the introduction of protease inhibitors (PI). They reported their study in a recent issue of AIDS ("Survival Improvement of AIDS-Related Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy in the Era of Protease Inhibitors," AIDS, October 1, 1999;13(14):1881-1887).
