Rapid Mutations Pose Challenge

The swift rate of HIV-1 mutations to protease inhibitors poses a challenge to managing antiretroviral treatments with genotyping, according to a report from Argentina.

HIV-1 resistance to protease inhibitors is associated with HIV-1 mutations. Over time, unique combinations of mutations in individual patients arise, depending on the therapeutic regimen used, noted C. Blumtritt and colleagues, Union Against STD, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
