HCV a Marker of Risk in HIV Patients

HCV is more of a marker of risk than a cofactor responsible for glomerular disease (GN) in patients coinfected with HIV, researchers from Italy report.

"The presence of HCV infection in patients with HIV coinfection and glomerular involvement has been indicated as [a] responsible [agent] of nephropathy," wrote G. Barbiano di Belgiojoso and colleagues from L. Sacco Hospital, Italy. "The association of HCV infection and immunecomplex (IC) GN in HIV infected patients has been reviewed."
