The advent of HAART in the past few years has provided researchers with a wealth of information on the interaction between HIV and the human immune system. Data on posttherapy patterns of viral load decline, as well as changes in CD4+ T-cell population structure broaden the knowledge base of heterogeneity in within-host viral replication and immune system reconstitution.
