Nonmedical Needs Need to Be Addressed for HIV Patients

A variety of nonmedical needs may need to be addressed to ensure that HIV infected patients receive the medical care required.

W. E. Cunningham and colleagues conducted a study to examine whether competing subsistence needs and other barriers are associated with poorer access to medical care among persons infected with HIV, using self-reported data ("The impact of competing subsistence needs and barriers on access to medical care for persons with human immunodeficiency virus receiving care in the United States," Medical Care, December 1999;37(12):1270-1281).
