Novel Vector Expresses Multiple HIV-1 Antigens

A novel vaccine strategy incorporates several HIV-1 accessory genes as part of a single, multi-component immunogen, researchers from the United States reported.

DNA vaccination generates both humoral and cellular immune responses in rodents, primates, and human beings," reported Velpandi Ayyavoo and colleagues from the University of Pennsylvania. "In this study, we demonstrate a novel strategy incorporating the HIV-1 accessory genes vif, vpu, and nef, as part of a single, multi-component immunogen."
