Study Supports Secondary Chemoprophylaxis for TB/HIV+

A recent study examining the intervals of recurrent tuberculosis (TB) following successful treatment showed support for secondary chemoprophylaxis.

Samuel Elias Kalluvya and colleagues examined subsequent TB episodes following successful treatment in both HIV infected and HIV seronegative patients. They found the immune systems in HIV infected patients were not strong enough to contain TB episodes only a few months after treatment.
