CDC Stage 1-3 HIV+ Patients Show Early Signs of Nerve Disorder

HIV positive patients classified as CDC stages 1-3 demonstrate early signs of distal symmetric polyneuropathy, scientists report in Acta Neurologica Scandinavica.

This statement was made based on a study performed at the University of Munster in Germany on 670 HIV+ patients in CDC stages 1-3 who were admitted to the neurological outpatient clinic.

"Neurophysiological investigations were performed on the sural and eroneal nerve for detection of axonal and myelin lesions," said I.W. Husstedt et al.
