Early Antiviral Therapy Impacts Viremia

The earlier, the better, when it comes to antiretroviral therapy for HIV infection, scientists in Switzerland say.

These scientists, part of a research team at the University Hospital of Geneva conducted a study comparing the initiation of antiviral therapy at primary HIV-1 infection (PHI) diagnosis, during chronic infection with CD4 counts greater than or equal to 500 (immunocompetent), and after development of immunosuppression ("Time of initiation of antiretroviral therapy: Impact on HIV-1 viremia," AIDS, 2000;14(3):243-249).
