This dual protein complex has been recognized as an activator for the JC virus (JCV) late promoter and an enhancer for the replication of JCV DNA replication, according to M.M. Wortman and colleagues.
"JCV is the causative agent of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML), an acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) opportunistic infection of the brain," the study authors said.
