Pain Progression in HIV Patients Varies with State of Immunity

Migraine headaches tend to regress in individuals with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) as their immune status changes. Unfortunately, tension type headaches seem to increase during this changeover, research investigators at the University of Munster in Germany report in the journal Pain.

These conclusions were made based on a study of 138 patients with confirmed type 1 HIV infection.

Study patients were given neurological examinations, neuroimaging exams, and a standardized interview, according to S. Evers and co-investigators at the university. None of the patients demonstrated indications of cerebral diseases other than mild...
