United Effort Urged to Fight HIV/AIDS Epidemic in African-American Community

The following statement was issued by Beny Primm, MD:

[helv] I recently facilitated a summit to develop new and effective ways to combat the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the African-American community here in the United States. This historical meeting, organized by pharmaceutical leader Glaxo Wellcome, brought together community organization directors, care providers, African-American leaders, and top government officials.

Participants agreed that a lack of funding, the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS, and distrust by people of color of the American medical system are the biggest reasons the disease is spreading at epidemic proportions in our community. ...
