HIV Resistance Testing Contract Awarded

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has awarded a contract to Virco, Baltimore, Maryland, to conduct the testing for the agency's pivotal survey of transmission of drug-resistant strains of HIV in the U.S.

The most important criterion for awarding this type of contract is technical quality, followed by reasonable pricing. The contract includes VircoGEN II tests, Virco's genotypic resistance test that identifies mutations in the genetic code of HIV that cause drug resistance, and Antivirogram phenotypic tests, which measure the ability of the virus to grown in the presence of each of the drugs in the laboratory.
