Recruiting At-Risk Women to HIV Vaccine Trials Isn't Easy

Recruiting women to and keeping them in HIV vaccine efficacy trials is a challenge.

Workers in The New York Blood Center report that such efforts need to draw from a variety of sources and involve community agencies to be successful. They should know: 72% of the at-risk women they attempted to recruit to an HIV vaccine preparedness study rejected the opportunity to participate.

Pamela Brown-Peterside and colleagues enrolled at-risk, non-injection drug user, HIV-1 negative women into their study in the following ways:
