Between July 1999 and June 2000, 205 AIDS cases were reported. Last fiscal year, (1998-1999) 240 cases were reported. In June 2000, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) ranked the Columbia area as the city with the fourth-highest AIDS rate in the nation, a rating based on a calendar year from January to December.
