Experimental Drug Stolen

An "extremely dangerous" batch of an experimental drug produced in goats and intended as a treatment for HIV/AIDS has been stolen, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said December 22, 2000, in a warning to doctors and patients.

The sponsor of the product, Dr. Gary R. Davis, said in a letter to the government that the batch had been stolen from a storage facility in Raleigh, North Carolina, the FDA said.

Davis said the batch has "the potential to be extremely dangerous" and "it is also possible that someone may try to sell this contaminated medication."
