Peptide's Protective Mechanism Against HIV Revealed

by Michael Greer, staff medical writer -- Biochemists in France have elucidated the mechanisms by which the peptide SPC3 is able to protect against cellular invasion by some HIV strains.

"SPC3 is a multibranched peptide containing eight identical GPGRAF motifs which are derived from the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1 gp120 V3 loop consensus sequence," J.M. Sabatier and colleagues at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique explained in the Journal of Peptide Research.
