HIV Patients Display Reduced Vascular Reactivity

by Michael Greer, staff medical writer -- In addition to other vascular morbidities, HIV infected patients are resistant to increased blood flow following physiological hyperemia triggers, researchers in France have shown.

"Given that several pathology-based studies reported some degree of coronary and arterial vasculopathy in HIV infected patients, we investigated whether abnormal vascular reactivity may also be found in these patients," J.J. Monsuez and colleagues at Hospital Paul Brousse in Villejuif explained in the Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes.
