Low Calprotectin Levels May Raise Oral Candidiasis Susceptibility

S.P. Sweet and colleagues at Guy's Hospital compared calprotectin levels in HIV and Sjogren's syndrome patients, who often suffer from oral candidiasis, with levels in patients who contracted this fungal infection through other oral disorders.

Sweet et al. found that HIV patients, unlike other oral candidiasis sufferers, have reduced oral calprotectin levels which might affect the course of candidiasis infection.
