L-Glutamine And Antioxidant Therapy Effective Against HIV Associated Weight Loss

by Michael Greer, senior medical writer - Patients suffering from HIV induced weight loss can be successfully and cost-effectively treated with a combination of antioxidants and the amino acid L-glutamine, researchers in Massachusetts say.

"Loss of body cell mass, the active functioning tissue of the body, commonly occurs in patients with [HIV] infection," explained J.K. Shabert and colleagues at Harvard University's Brigham and Women's Hospital, "and the extent of wasting is related to the length of survival."
