HLA Allele Expression Does Not Predict T-Cell Targets

by Michael Greer, senior medical writer - Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) allele expression does not reliably predict the immune response to cells infected by HIV, according to researchers in the United States.

"Cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL) target multiple epitopes in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected persons, and are thought to influence the viral set point," explained Spyros A. Kalams and colleagues at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School and the University of California at San Francisco and San Francisco's Department of Public Health.
