Antiretroviral Treatment Response Improves Chemotherapy Response

by Michael Greer, senior medical writer - Patients with HIV or AIDS-related lymphoma are more likely to achieve benefit from chemotherapy if they undergo successful antiretroviral treatment, researchers in Italy say.

Andrea Antinori and colleagues at the National Institute for Infectious Diseases Lazzaro Spallanzani and Catholic University in Rome conducted a study to "evaluate the impact of response to highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) on the natural history of AIDS non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) and to analyse the feasibility, efficacy and toxicity of HAART in combination with chemotherapy."
