Treatment Strategy Doubles Efficacy In HIV Coinfected Patients

Daily administration of interferon alfa-2b in combination with ribavirin for the treatment of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) is more than twice as effective as the standard treatment regimen (three injections interferon/week plus ribavirin) at suppressing hepatitis C viral levels in patients coinfected with HIV, according to study results presented at the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) annual meeting in October 2001.
