Junior Doctors Are Not Well-Trained In Postexposure Prophylaxis

by Michael Greer, senior medical writer - Young doctors in England are not familiar with techniques for preventing HIV infection after exposure, researchers say.

Dr. Marcus Y. Chen and colleagues at Guy's and St. Thomas's National Health Service (NHS) Trust in London conducted a study to "assess the level of knowledge and experience of postexposure prophylaxis (PEP) against human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) among junior doctors."

Knowledge about and experience with PEP was limited in the doctors studied, Chen and coauthors said.

The researchers sent questionnaires to all junior doctors at two major teaching hospitals in London. ...
