Intensive antiretroviral-chemotherapy effective against lymphoma/leukemia

by Michael Greer, senior medical writer - Researchers in Texas say that high-dose chemotherapy, combined with potent antiviral drugs, can offer hope to patients suffering from AIDS-related hematological cancers.

"Patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS)-associated lymphoma/leukemia have a poor prognosis and are frequently treated with low-intensity therapy," explained Dr. Jorge Cortes and colleagues at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
