Dr. Iouri L. Kozyrev and colleagues at Kyoto University and Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine in Kyoto assessed the impact of interleukin (IL)-5 expression on the replication kinetics of highly pathogenic simian/human immunodeficiency virus (SHIV) in vivo.
A SHIV strain expressing IL-5 (NI-IL5) demonstrated enhanced replication ability in vivo, confirming earlier in vitro results, Kozyrev and coauthors found.
