Phagocytosis of apoptotic cells increases viral replication in macrophages

"Clearance of apoptotic cells increases macrophage secretion of antiinflammatory mediators and might modulate viral replication in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) type 1-infected macrophages," according to Dr. Rosangela G. Lima and colleagues at the Federal University of Bahia and the Bahia School of Medicine and Public Health in Salvador and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in Rio de Janeiro.
