"In a search for natural proteins with anti-HIV activity, we screened a large set of purified proteins from bovine milk and peptide fragments thereof," according to Ben Berkhout and colleagues working at the University of Amsterdam, the University of Groningen, and NIZO Food Research in Ede.
That search yielded the bovine lactoferrin (bLF), which disrupts the HIV cell entry process at submicromolar doses, Berkhout and coauthors said.
