Lifespan announces $19.2 million NIH grant

Lifespan announced it has won three major, multiyear research grants totaling $19.2 million from the U.S. National Institutes of Health.

The funding comes from the Center of Biomedical Research Excellence, the Center for Aids Research, and the Rhode Island-Puerto Rico Asthma Center.

The grants will be used to establish a cancer research laboratory, develop multidisciplinary AIDS research programs, and study disparities in pediatric asthma within the Latino community.

Lifespan is a nonprofit health care system based in Providence. It owns Rhode Island Hospital, Hasbro Children's Hospital and Miriam Hospital.
