To produce P. carinii infection in "simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV)-infected macaques as a model of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS)-associated P. carinii pneumonia (PCP), SIV-infected macaques were inoculated intrabronchially with macaque-derived P. carinii," according to researchers in the United States.
