T-cell receptor Vbeta8.1 peptide may reduces coxsackievirus-induced heart damage

The T-cell receptor Vbeta8.1 peptide may ameliorate cardiac damage in HIV patients with coxsackievirus infections.

According to a recent study from the University of Arizona, HIV "results in progressive deterioration of the immune system in the majority of untreated hosts."

However, "peptide immunotherapy has been shown to be effective in the stimulation or immunoregulation of T-helper 1 (Th1) and T-helper 2 (Th2) response subsets," noted R. T. Sepulveda and colleagues.
