Exposure to ART in utero or early life doesn't appear be harmful

Given concerns about the potential for adverse effects on unborn and newborn children exposed to prophylactic antiretroviral therapy (ART), researchers said they find data from a large study that indicate no serious adverse events in a large study "reassuring."

The findings come from data on uninfected children enrolled in the European Collaborative Study. M.L. Newell and colleagues, University College London, wanted to see if there were any links among ART exposure and subsequent perinatal problems and major adverse health events later in the children's lives.
