Health problems may make some men more vulnerable to infection

A combination of physical abuse, drug use and depression could make urban men who have sex with men more vulnerable to HIV infection, according to new research.

"The interconnection of these problems functions to magnify the effects of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in this population," say Ron Stall, PhD, MPH, of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and colleagues.

The study is published in the June 2003 issue of the American Journal of Public Health.
