High-resolution computed tomography useful for PCP diagnosis

High-resolution computed tomography (CT) is useful for diagnosing HIV patients with suspected Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP).

Researchers in Spain conducted a study "to assess the value of high-resolution CT in distinguishing between" PCP and non-P. carinii pneumonia in HIV-patients with a high PCP risk.

A. Hidalgo and coauthors "performed a prospective study in 30 patients with less than 200 CD4 lymphocytes, clinical symptoms of pulmonary disease and chest X-ray non-conclusive for pulmonary infection."
